Web Director The Taos News is looking for a full-time Production/Technology/Web Director for a 10,000-circulation, family-owned weekly newspaper located in beautiful Taos, New Mexico. In 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012, 2014 The Taos News was voted the best weekly newspaper in the United States by the National Newspaper Association. This position deals with 3 areas that often overlap: Production Oversees the entire paper's production from news/photo/video gathering tools to final PDFs including workflow for ad production and pagination.
Skills include A working knowledge of print production, Postscript and PDF workflows.A detailed background in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Acrobat) in a full production environment.Must also have a detailed knowledge of Macintosh operating systems.Also an understanding of what is needed for the web workflow.Technology Oversees the IT area of the entire paper.
This part of the position keeps all Mac workstations, servers and peripherals in working order as well as all network and internet functions for the office email and internet connection.Also researches necessary improvements with technology across the organization.Must be familiar with Mac OS X Server and client.Knowledge of NewsEdit Pro IQue client and server, NewsCycle Solutions (ATEX), and Circ Pro is a plus.Web
This part of the position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the website and the need to be current and meet standards. This includes design, usability, marketing, content, and new technologies as they arise.Must have skills in web design (HTML, CSS etc.) Flash, usability, search engine optimization as well as marketing.This position also supports the sales team on sales calls involving web advertising.One must be able to understand web statistics and prepare web reports as well as react to the results.Other areas of responsibility include management of the email promotions editorial video, all ad creation (Static, video and Flash).Lead the role in the strategic development of the main editorial site and supplemental advertising and other sites.
